Daytripper by Fabio Moon and Gabriel Ba, is an award-winning 10-issue comic book, collected into a trade paperback, by Vertigo.
Daytripper takes readers on an extraordinary journey through the life of the main character, Bras de Oliva Domingos.
Bras, a newspaper obituaries writer is a struggling writer, trying to step out of the shadows of his successful novelist father, to make a name for himself in the literary world.
Each issue of Daytripper focuses on a specific time in Bras’ life – his innocent adolescence when he was 11; his carefree post-college days in his early 20’s, when he thought anything was possible; his more cautious, career-oriented life during his mid 30’s; his elderly years as a successful writer, in his 70’s.
Each issue presents a different defining moment in Bras’ life and shows readers how it would have ended up had Bras done things differently or taken a different path.
Through its beautiful, subtle but meaningful illustrations, Daytripper tries to define life through death, and reality through dreams. It’s a story about friendship, love, mortality, and the difficult choices people make to make their lives more meaningful.
Daytripper is a very moving story that will make readers re-assess their own lives, and dreams, and hopefully, to wake up in order to live.
…what my dreams really show me is what my life can be once I open my eyes.
