It’s Monday, What Are You Reading?

This is my first “It’s Monday, What Are You Reading?” meme (a cool meme from Book Journey).

So, what am I reading this week (and the week after, and the week after, and the week after,  ad infinitum…)?

Ichi Kyu Hachi Yon

Haruki Murakami’s gargantuan novel, 1Q84.

Even with my paperback edition, this novel is over 1,100 pages long.  1Q84 might well be the last major novel I’ll get to finish this year, if I’m lucky.

This is going to be my first Haruki Murakami book, and I’ve heard mixed reviews about it.  Someone told me that 1Q84 is not really representative of Haruki Murakami as a writer – I don’t really know if that’s a good thing.

Good luck to me and if you don’t see another “review” post from me until 2013, you know why…

**Addendum**

I’ve heard of Haruki Murakami for a while now, but only yesterday learned that he was Japanese….

No, his name didn’t give him away.

Seriously, though.  Obviously, I knew he was Japanese, but, only yesterday, after reading a little about his life, did I realize that he was a Japanese writer, living in Japan whose works, originally in Japanese,  were translated to English (I never noticed the “translated by” in books).

I honestly thought he was like Kazuo Ishiguro, who, though born in Japan, grew up and live in England (and wrote in English).

Excuse me while I go crawl and hide in a deep, dark hole…..

  1. I borrowed The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle from Doc Ranee. That’s going to be my first Murakami, but I don’t know when to start reading it yet, haha.

    So how’s the progress with 1Q84? 😀
